Mr. Dressup was my favorite TV show as a kid, and it most likely my first artistic inspiration. Mr. Dressup was played by the late Ernie Combs. Along with Mr. Dressup is Casey and his dog Finnegan, who were brought to life by puppeteer Judith Lawrence.
The Mr. Dressup show was fantastic! He would tell stories, sing, and of course dress-up in silly costumes and put on plays. My absolute favorite part of Mr. Dressup was when he would draw, and I dreamed that one day I would be able to draw just like him.

A very nice tribute! Great illustration.
I also got sidetracked on Kathleen Edwards, thanks to your sidebar. I’ll have to pick up something by her. I like Gillan Welch, Alison Krauss, Lucinda Willams, etc.

I have never seen Mr. Dressup. It sounds like a good one, though!
Perhaps Mr. Dressup was like our version of Captain Kangaroo. He didn’t draw, but there was a cartoon segment on there called “Hello My Name is Simon” and it was my favorite. Everything Simon drew came true.

I’ve been a Kathleen Edwards Fan since itunes gave a track away for free in 05!
More importantly, your illustration is awesome!

Love the colors used in this and the illo is just fun. I guess Mr. DressUp is your version of our Mr. Rogers Neighborhood.

Ohhhhh Mr. Dressup! This means you too are Canadian. He was so cool. I liked the version better when Casey and Finnegan were in it too (did you see the later version?). I too admired his drawing skills. I wonder if there’s a clip of him drawing on you tube? Sigh… thanks for the childhood reminder.

When I was a kid, there was a man dressed up like a sailor who hosted Popeye cartoons (o.k. that dates me a bit.) It was a silly show, but he would also draw. So I can relate. It always got me excited and I would grab my pencils and paper and draw along with him.
This is a sweet tribute and a really fun illustrations. But of course, your drawings are always a lot of fun and well executed.

I also grew up with the Popeye cartoons…they were televised in the Detroit area hosted by two different men, Captain Jolly and Poopdeck Paul
I was fortunate to have also grown up watching Bob Homme, aka The Friendly Giant, and just recently learned the sad news of his passing away back in 2000. He was a wonderful man.
